Risen Series – Week 3 Devotional

Freedom on the Other Side
Sometimes the storms we face feel overwhelming and confusing. We may wonder why God allows certain struggles or challenges to happen in our lives. But often, the storms we experience are not the end of the journey—they are leading us somewhere.
In Gospel of Mark chapter 4, Jesus led His disciples through a violent storm as they crossed the lake. They were afraid and believed they might perish. But when they reached the other side, they discovered the real reason for the journey. A man who had been broken, bound, and tormented for years was waiting for an encounter with Jesus.
This week’s devotional reminds us that Jesus has authority over storms, darkness, and every chain that tries to hold us back.

Day 1 – The Storm Had a Purpose
Jesus told His disciples, “Let us cross over to the other side.” As they obeyed, a storm suddenly arose. The wind and waves crashed against the boat, and the disciples feared for their lives.
But the storm was not the destination. It was simply part of the journey.
On the other side of the lake, someone was waiting for freedom. Sometimes the storms in our lives are not meant to destroy us—they are positioning us for something greater that God is about to do.
Even when we cannot see the purpose, we can trust the One who leads us through the storm.
Prayer
Lord, help me trust You even when life feels uncertain. Remind me that You are guiding my steps and that every storm has a purpose in Your plan.
- Scripture: Mark 4:35–41

Day 2 – No One Could Help Him
People had tried to control the situation, but nothing worked. The man’s condition seemed hopeless.
Yet the moment Jesus arrived, everything began to change.
This reminds us that there are situations in life that people cannot fix—but Jesus can. His power reaches the places that feel broken, abandoned, and beyond repair.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for meeting us in our brokenness. Help me remember that nothing in my life is beyond Your power to restore.
- Scripture: Mark 5:2–5

Day 3 – Even Darkness Recognizes Jesus
They said their name was Legion, meaning there were many.
But even though the man was overwhelmed by darkness, the power of Jesus was greater.
This moment reminds us that the authority of Jesus extends over every spiritual battle we face. Fear, oppression, and strongholds must bow in His presence.
Where Jesus is present, darkness cannot remain.
Prayer
Lord, I recognize Your authority over my life. Help me trust that Your power is greater than every challenge and battle I face.
- Scripture: Mark 5:6–9

Day 4 – Jesus Brings Life Change
The man who once lived among the tombs was now completely restored.
This is the power of an encounter with Jesus. He does not simply improve our lives—He transforms them. Chaos becomes peace. Brokenness becomes restoration. Bondage becomes freedom.
When Jesus enters our story, life change is possible.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the transformation You bring. Continue renewing my mind and shaping my life according to Your purpose.

Day 5 – From Delivered to Sent
The man who once lived in isolation became a messenger of hope.
God does not only set us free for our own benefit—He also uses our stories to encourage and inspire others. Your testimony of what God has done in your life may be exactly what someone else needs to hear.
Your freedom can become someone else’s hope.
Prayer
God, help me share the story of what You have done in my life. Use my testimony to bring hope and encouragement to others.
Final Thought
The disciples thought the storm was the story. But when they reached the other side, they realized the storm was simply the path to someone’s freedom.
Jesus still brings that same life-changing power today. No matter what storm you are facing, remember that the One who calmed the sea also has authority over every chain and every struggle in our lives.
